I decided to do this post because I think clarifying shampoo is an essential that not everyone knows about, and I know that my hair would look awful without it.
So what is it? It's a shampoo designed to remove build up from the hair and it's sometimes called purifying shampoo or deep cleansing shampoo.
Usually build up is caused from using hair products like hairspray or hair gel etc and sometimes shampoo itself can cause a build up with ingredients that put a film on the hair (I'm guessing silicone is a major culprit)
If you have never tried a good clarifying shampoo and you use styling products you may well find the occasional use of one very beneficial.
In my experience I have found hair serum to cause build up and also conditioning treatments if used too often, so I suppose you can have too much of a good thing!
I have also learnt from experience when my hair needs a good wash with a clarifying shampoo because it starts to look dull, is lifeless and for me a little knotty and I can just tell.
I actually discovered this shampoo because years ago my hair became so knotty that it took me ages to comb it out even once I had conditioned it, my hair was awful (almost like the synthetic hair you get on children's dolls) and I couldn't understand why my hair was so bad, I hadn't treated it with chemicals other than the occasional dye job but I did use a lot of conditioning treatments and a cocktail of shampoos and conditioners. Someone I worked with in the salon suggested I try a clarifying shampoo and so I took their advice.
As soon as I washed my hair with clarifying shampoo it was back to its old self and I as you can imagine was I very happy and relieved that I had figured out what was wrong, my hair had a build up and all it needed was a really good wash.
I use the Pantene Pro-v clarifying shampoo which works great.
